Midtown, a Model

Midtown knows no boundaries. Our energy, resources, open network and fresh spirit cannot be contained within a two-mile area. We believe Midtown represents a critical physical link between Public Square and University Circle. Midtown is also an essential intellectual resource that extends to Greater Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, and beyond. In a stunningly short period of time, Midtown can evolve to become a model of open collaboration and innovation, which extends our influence around the world. The future of Cleveland and Ohio can and should begin in Midtown. We encourage businesses, residents and supporters from all walks of life to embrace the area and its potential as "Midtown, My Town". Dramatic change is waiting, just around the corner.

A few reasons why Midtown is a viable engine for innovation, connectivity and economic development:

Business:

MidTown’s two square mile area is home to over 650 businesses that employ

over 18,000 employees.

• $20.6 million of private investment was realized in 2005 (28 projects ranging

from $4,800 to $5.7M).

Innovation:

MidTown Innovation Zone activity began in January 2006 with “MidTown

Wednesdays”, civic forums hosted in partnership with Myers

University, the City of Cleveland, and The Institute for Open Economic

Networks (I-Open). Nearly 500 people have participated to date

in weekly forums.

Living:

• 150 volunteers participated in “Keep MidTown Clean Initiatives” in 2005,

collecting more than four tons of litter.

• 400 stakeholders attended the 2005 Summer Picnic on the lawn of

Myers University.

General (accomplished in 2005):

• 9,750 hours were spent by MidTown Cleveland advocating for Midtown

stakeholders.

• 2,000 hours of security patrol coverage and response were dedicated

to Midtown.
